Get to the root of your gut health
Have you ever heard that “all health starts in the gut?” or that “the gut is our second brain?”
Both statements are actually true.
Our gut microbiome, located from our mouth to our anus, is an ecosystem – home to trillions of bacteria – both beneficial and pathogenic.
Yes… You guessed it! We are full of bugs! And these bugs control our mood, metabolism, memory, immunity, and energy level.
Did you know?
Did you know that 70% of our immune system is in our gut? This means that if our gut is not healthy, we are prone to get sick from that next flu bug that comes our way.
Did you know?
Did you know that 90% of our serotonin, that feel-good neurotransmitter, is made by our healthy gut bacteria. If an ultra processed diet, stress, or too much alcohol have killed these friendly bugs, then it is possible for anxiety or depression to occur.
Did you know?
Did you know that digestive complaints such as gas, bloating, constipation, diarrhea, and heartburn are some of the most reported symptoms that lead an individual to seek attention from their primary care physician? Unfortunately, these symptoms are often treated with a prescription medication that is either ineffective, or has unfavorable side effects. The patient rarely gets answers or adequate help for their condition.
how does functional medicine help solve gut health issues?
We don’t necessarily have to have digestive issues per se to have “gut issues.” We know that other health problems such as frequent colds/infections, low energy, weight gain, memory and cognitive issues, rashes, joint pain, and autoimmune illness often stem from leaky gut or dysbiosis.
Dysbiosis is an overgrowth of harmful versus beneficial bacteria, and leaky gut is intestinal permeability- where toxins, undigested food, and microbes “leak” through the intestinal lining - into the bloodstream, where they don’t belong. This is how most health problems begin.
At Integrative Health Solutions by Shay, we understand the distress that digestive symptoms can cause.
our approach
We approach these symptoms holistically, understanding that gut health is pivotable to overall health. This approach involves identifying and addressing the root causes of your digestive discomfort which may include dietary changes, lifestyle modifications, and targeted supplementation.
We also focus on restoring balance to the gut microbiome through probiotics, prebiotics, and anti-microbial herbs, eliminating inflammatory foods, such as sugar and gluten, and introducing anti-inflammatory foods, such as fiber-rich plant sources.
Additionally, stress management and adequate sleep are vital, as they significantly impact gut function.
final thoughts
Healing the gut isn’t about alleviating symptoms, it’s about restoring the bodies natural balance, and optimizing overall health.
By focusing on gut health, we can help you not only feel better, but also build a foundation for a healthier, more vibrant you!

I love going to see Shay. She is so humble and she loves to help anyone who comes to her for their health issues. She is very knowledgeable about my gut problems. She is nice, loving and listens to everything I have to say. She spends as much time as needed to talk about my issues, then gives her recommendations. I wish I could see her every week. Her price for an Office visit is reasonable. Everything she recommends gives me relief, gives me strength, and tastes great.
